Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge
20 minutes northwest of South Padre Island, the nearly 100,000 acre refuge provides a habitat for native wildlife. Visitors can connect with nature through a variety of activities including fishing, hunting, wildlife observation and photography, bicycling, hiking and interpretive tours and programs. Port Isabel Lighthouse
On mainland, near the foot of Queen Isabella Causeway, climb the historic lighthouse (completed in 1853) for a panoramic view of Laguna Madre Bay.

Port Isabel Museum
Port Isabel Museum is located in the historic Charles Champion Building, an 1899 Victorian building that served as a dry goods store and residence. It now houses two exhibit levels, a theater, gift shop and one of the largest collections of Mexican artifacts from the U.S.-Mexican War. The facade features the famous ‘fish mural’ painted in 1906 by a local fisherman and beautifully restored in 1996 by artist Travis Keese. Learn More
